The show was amazing! Petrucci was brilliant as was Steve Vai and of course Joe is peerless! However.....this time I was really disappointed with Joe. Joe did nothing wrong....he played brilliantly and flawlessly as humanely possible...but his setlist was a BIG SHAME! There are so many amazing songs that he could have played....like 1)Down Down Down 2)Moroccan Sunset 3)Home 4)Luminous Flesh Giants 5)The crush of love and so many more. I guess i'm tired of listening to Summer Song and Always with you and Always with me. For once i would love to see joe do an acoustic session...or play some of his not so famous songs rather than repeating the ssame old stuff! Maybe next time......and please keep Petrucci....make him permanent in this gig. I think he fits in right with vai and joe. Cheers

amazing show.highlight of the show- the guitarist from zz-top came out and played with the guys at the end. it was great.best show ive been to in along time.

What a fantastic concert. As I expected, John Petrucci was amazing. His very technical but melodic playing is a real inspiration. He may not look nearly emotionally sucked into the music as Joe, but you can tell he puts a lot into it. I've been a fan of DT and LTE for a while, so I pretty much knew what to expect from John and the drummer, Mike Portnoy, but even at that, they both blew me away. Mike Portnoy couldn't look any more relaxed while he is playing the most amazing stuff. I'm my opinion, he's WAY better than the other guys (no offense to them: they're pretty solid, too). I give John's set a 10. VAI...I've listened to his music over the years and like various songs from various albums. I was pretty disappointed with Steve, honestly. He plays fast with great technique, but I could honestly do without all of the pimp hat, tongue-playing wackiness. He appeared to be too caught up in acting weird to actually be "into" the music he was playing. Trying too hard to be the next Hendrix/guitar innovator, if you ask me. Billy Sheehan is an equally impressive musician, but he too spent most of his time on all of the antics. Sorry, but it really took away from the enjoyment of the show for me. After a couple songs, I was ready for Joe. Not to bash Steve too much, but in the jam at the end, I thought many of his solos were in contrast with the style of music they were playing (ZZ Top, Hendrix etc.) I realize all 3 guys have their own style to add to the songs, but in La Grange when Joe lays down some rocking blues riff and then Vai lets loose with fiery, two-handed tapping and whammy bar crap... Wrong time for that, but whatever. I give Steve a 4. Joe, on the other hand, wasn't as technical as John or flashy as Steve, but he PLAYED the guitar. Just flat out PLAYED. You could see and feel his music coming from the heart, and it was very impressive. He was very tasteful in all the jam stuff, and was a class act all of the way. Stu was the same way. Great trio with jeff on drums. I've seen some people bash Jeff's skills, but he's exactly the solid drummer that Joe needs. Mike Portnoy, despite all his talent, just wouldn't fit with Joe stylistically. Anyway, Joe was great: 10 for him. 2/3 ain't bad! Great show.

I,m 27 years old and this was my first actual concert I've ever attended. The show was incredible.

I'll tell you why its not a ten later. Petrucci did a great job. Especially during the jam session. He seemed to thrive during the freestyle. I will definitely be on the look out for John's stuff in the future. Steve Vai is the ultimate showman. Still amazing though. Joe, however, is still too good for this set up. This is why the show doesn't get a ten. You're left wanting to see more Joe! Remember, Houston got skipped during the EOC tour. Still a great show! Here's Joe's set list- almost in order: Cool #9, Flying in a Blue Dream, Devil's Slide, Satch Boogie, The Extremist, Raspberry Jam Delta V, Summer Song, Always with You, Always with Me, G3 Jam: Voodoo Chile, Little Wing, La Grange w/ a surprise visit from Billy Gibbons. Only in Houston. The 10+ minute jam left you walking out amazed! Great job guys! Houston Fans - Next time... get out of your seat!!

A few complaints before the props. First of all, I actually think there were only about 20 people in the Aerial who had ever attended a rock show. Come on now. Standup and feel the music through your entire body and not through your ass from sitting the entire time. What I don’t understand was why the Aerial finally realized how much fun and how much energy was created when the crowd stood and closed in toward the stage during the “jam.” Oh well, someday you will learn. JP and Portnay were great. Vai just killed me with his long hair blowing in the fan. It brought me back to the days of Poison. He played great, though and I really enjoyed his showmanship. No way was Vai showing off, well... except for his hair and I already covered that. Satch... what a bummer 8 or so songs? 45 minutes? What a rip! What he did play was enjoyable, but I prefer to see him alone where he can kick it for 2 hours rather than skim from the top. The G3 format blows! Give these guys more time to perform or let them tour on their own.

Man, oh man, oh man!!! What a show!! I would have to say this is the best concert I've ever been to. I was fortunate enough to attend the San Antonio date of the first G3 tour in 96 and up until this show it was the best show I had been to, but it has been moved to a close second in comprison to this one. Awesome job guys!

This was the first concert that I have ever been to. I somehow won an aftershow pass to meet my own Jimi Hendrix. I have never won anything in my sorry bastard life. Everything went wrong the day of the concert as I traveled 200 miles to see him. My Lord somehow saw it fit to allow me to me meet Him. He hugged us, autographed us, gave me helpful tips on my playing, and took a picture with us. I am changed.

An excellent set by all G3 members. My first time to see Petrucci and that was just mind boggling. Steve Vai work his ass off making the guitar scream and squeal. That pimp hat was a nice touch. Joe was fantastic as usual but, I needed more songs from him. I would have liked to hear more Crystal Planet and Engines tunes. Not enough time I guess. Thanks for playing at Aerial its a better venue. G3 rendered all other concerts pointless. later

Truly amazing! First, the thought of having all 3 of these musicians on stage together is mind-numbing. The 1st to take the stage was John Petrucci and what a performance. He cranked out 4 new songs that left everyone a little giddy. The first song rocked; it was heavy and melodic, kinda Opeth-like =) Tremendous guitar playing as usual from JP. Then Mr. Vai, damn he rules! He is a freak when it comes to playing guitar. His new songs were a treat. Giant Balls of Gold was great. Incantation was great. And for the Love of God was one of the best performances he's done (IMHO). Next, Satriani...whew, man can he jam. He is a master and it truly comes out in his effortless playing. His set list was great! Grand Finale: Voodoo Chile (Slight Return), Little Wing, And La Grange. Highlight of the JAM session, BILLY GIBBONS!!!!!!!!!!! What a treat. He is awesome. To conclude, the sound was great at Aerial. Everyone jammed their asses off but I deducted 1 point because I'm a JP fan and his set was a lil' short for me. P.S. Backstage was cool, these are some of the most accommodating musicians around; taking time to sign stuff and take pics. Wonderful show. DVD please!!

This is the first show I have been to to see any of the greats, and the best. I rated in in sessions; 3-John, 3-Steve, 3-Joe, and 1-Jam Session. The place was packed, and waiting for the show to start. I have been listening to Petrucci, and Dream Theater for a long time... so I knew what to expect. I heard alot of people asking, Who is Petrucci? Why is he with G3?; cause I have never heard of him. Well, when he came out it was a jaw dropper. He shredded with absolute perfection! John, and Portnoy broke in Paradigm Shift, and put everyone in awe. John, and Mike thank you for the chance to see perfection at it's finest. When Vai came out he put on a great show. The thing that enjoyed the most is when he was executing harmonics with his tongue. Alot of people are saying that he was to much of a show off; But if they actually knew Steve, and knew what he is loved for is the fact that he puts his heart into everything that he does, and shows it. For The Love Of God was the coolest exhibition of his love for his guitar I have ever seen. The only problem was on some songs it was distorted from Shehaan's bass. Satch came out and played a fantastic set. Everyone was on their feet showing him so much respect for the elite guitarist that he is. Him, Stu, and Jeff totally rocked the Aerial Theater to the MAX! I really didn't like the Jam Session of Little Wing for the fact that it was so distorted that you really couldn't hear all of them play at once clear. The thing that was totally awesome was when they played Le Grange by ZZ Top, and all of a sudden you heard a forth guitar, and Billy Gibbons walked out started jamming old blues with them. The udder respect that all three of them showed him was awesome. Everyone jumped out of their seats and ran up to the stage; and Joe, and Steve held out their guitars while playing, and let everyone touch them. Guys you all are unbelivable, and Petrucci.... You probibly just made a ton of people turn to you and respect you so much in just one set----I'm a lifetime fan. Thank you for the experiance guys. KP

I will always go see Joe Satriani at the Aerial Theatre, no matter what the format. However, G3 just doesn't contain enough Satch (and wasn't worth $56). The real discovery for me was John Petrucci - I will be checking into Dream Theater tomorrow - his sound and style were excellent. Steve Vai needs to take his show to Vegas, as it resembles some kind of circus act. There's no denying his (and his band's) musical talent, but I couldn't help but think I was watching Spinal Tap 2001. Joe was Joe, Stu and Jeff were tight - excellent sound as always. But, 8 songs just don't cut it - where is that DVD? The last tour simply cannot be topped. The jam was slightly rearranged to pay homage to Billy Gibbons, who joined G3 for La Grange. It was kinda funny watching him trade leads with these youngsters shredding his blues song - but it was a nice touch to end the show. Joe, thanks for coming to Houston.
