Wow. The day started when I picked Joe, Rubina and ZZ up and went to the Acropolis and had lunch together.Extremely nice, polite and simple people. And at the show? Fantastic!! The setlist was like Neboysa in Sofia described in a slightly different order. The highlights: Everybody went nuts with Crushing Day. No adjustments. He played it precisely as the album. At Cool #9 he jammed a little bit more than usual in the beggining playing the intro of Hill Groove. The seven string is a beautiful guitar in wooden color. Galen escorts him with a seven string as well. New Last Jam played with a double necked guitar in classic sunburst color. Sittind down he performed The Headless Horseman and Midnight(both tapping songs), Starry Night and I Believe with the whole band sitting. He was so overwelmed by the audience's reactions and enthousiasm that he got carried away a few times and didnt perform with strict precision as he usually does. Overall? Excellent. I couldn't believe that the guy I was talking to a few hours ago about holidays and regular stuff (and music of course) was the same hero that made the people (and me) go crazy in the show. I've got pictures of Joe at the Acropolis. I'll submit them here later.

It was good. Not the best Satch oncert or any concert I've been to, but it was still excellent. (Comparison, The Godfather to Godfather 2) The bass, to me, was the best part of it, although I'm not 100% it was Stu or not, I think it was but not sure. I liked the songs Satch played but there's some of the rarities I like (Specifically from Not of this Earth) that I'd like to hear him play. If you get the chance, though, to go to the G3 tour with him in it go! (If Stu is there, you'd be crazy to miss it)

A dream came true... at last. All these years we, satch-fans, were waiting for that night. A night we will never forget. (Oh my God! Is this Joe? - Fan in front of me in the begining of the show.)

GO TO THIS LINK AND WATCH JOE'S INTERVIEW IN GREECE! 20+MINUTES! mms://a558.v33234.c3323.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/558/5321/871599012/flash.download.akamai.com/3323/Entertainment/music4/Satriani/Satriani-int.wmv

GO TO THIS ONE AND WATCH THREE SONGS FROM THE GIG IN GREECE: http://entertainment.flash.gr/music/Portrait/2002/6/17/11592id/ (just click on the video links - Crushing Day included! Also, if the interview link above doesn't work you can go through here)

In a concert where no word was sung (well, almost - Joe played "I Believe"), I lost my voice along with quite a few others I'm sure. While the "sing with me" experience is common, I don't think the "sing with my guitar" experience happens all that often as Joe encouraged us to do at some point (you'll know what I'm talking about if you've got the Live in SF DVD). I couldn't speak after only the first two songs but that was more because of screaming when I realised what was going on! Joe was in Greece! Just in case someone hasn't read the reviews from Bulgaria the first two songs (of the whole European tour probably) were the transcendental "Flying in a Blue Dream" (no surprise there for the owners of Joe's DVDs) and the equally miraculous (drum roll) "Crushing Day"! I watched for the next two hours in a state of shock and I can't pick any highlights, the whole show was a highlight go and watch it Europeans! To all the sceptics out there:(those, won't be members of this webage of course :-) But just in case any casual visitors drop by) There's more to Joe than flash; he has the ability to appeal to non-guitarists and people with a lack of knowledge of musical theory (such as myself), because what he does best is emote his audiences. Fine examples here are "Midnight" and "Always With Me Always With You". And if someone says that these are songs from Joe's peak 15 years ago, my reply is that 42 seconds into his brand new "Mountain Song" me and my friends had a hair-raising experience. I would have liked to see Joe play more tracks from "Crystal Planet" (including the title track and "House Full Of Bullets") and his wonderful Grammy-nominated ballad "Until We Say Goodbye" from EOC but, hey, he played "Crushing Day"! That was a real treat. Enough said, DON'T MISS IT. You'll see a master at work; how many times can you claim you did that? But what makes him a GREAT is the fact that he is friendly and down to earth. God bless him and his family.

PS: The new album is a fine addition to Joe's catalogue. In Greece the new songs Joe played live where "Oriental Melody", "Belly Dancer" (the Middle-Eastern melodies on these two tracks are something that may seem exotic to others but Greeks are VERY familiar with this kind of music, perhaps too much :-) ), "Starry Night", "Mind Storm" (it sadly didn't sound perfect but I'm no expert, great song though),"New Last Jam", "Mountain Song" and "Seven String" (If I remember well).

PS #2: (15/7/2002) The European tour is almost over now, so I don't think I'll be spoiling it for anyone if I write down the whole setlist; if you don't want to know stop reading now! :-) Well, here goes: [Not of...] -> Headless Horseman, [Surfing...] -> Always With Me Always With You, Crushing Day, Ice 9, Midnight, Satch Boogie, Surfing With The Alien, [Dreaming #11] -> Crush Of Love, [Flying...] -> Flying In A Blue Dream, I Believe, Mystical Potato Groove Thing, [Extremist] -> Friends, Extremist, Summer Song, Why, [Joe Satriani] -> Cool No.9, [Crystal...] -> Raspberry Jam Delta-V, [EOC] -> Devil's Slide

WOOOOOOOW! The gig two nights ago was perfect! The open theater is surrounded by a rocky hill and JOE really rocked us all!!! You can read about the set-list in other reviews for the same show, so all i want to declare here is that i witnessed something more than a concert the other night. People in the audience were so excited with JOE's playing (and his band of course) and focused on the music they were playing, that actually some of us forgot to applause in some songs!!! To me it was something more than a rock show, where people go to have fun, it was like a musical mystagogy, where people have fun and also enjoy musicianship and i have seen it happening only twice before, in a RUSH and in a DREAM THEATER concert. And JOE is touring with DT this August and autumn, I guess these shows are going to be unforgetable for those who'll attend them....
