#141 (Gary_Scott) Q: Joe, I'm a really, really big fan of yours, and actually, as guitar influences go - you're basically the only one of mine! Ok, so I play a little Vai, too...But, pretty much everything I've learned has come from playing your music. I was listening to Love Thing one time - I love that song, and I'd listened to it countless times before - then, one time, it just clicked, I thought, "Wow, the title fits so well"...You've just made me see things about the guitar in such a different light. Anyway, onto my question. The right hand Artificial Harmonics you get...Where you raise the bar with the left hand? I can get them at the 5th fret and 4th, almost basically up until the 2.6 equivalent, using your Harmonic Map. But, I just can't get them to sound properly any more towards the bridge - but you seem to pull it off so effortlessly. What I do instead, is place my thumb tip on the string, and pluck with my middle finger nail, but, it doesn't look as flash!!! :o) The problem I think is that my guitar has 24 frets, and so the pickups are placed relatively differently. Any hints on this would be wonderfully appreciated. Oh, and by the way...Engines of Creation? Nice work. I still think that Home and Always, as well as Love Thing, Back to the Shalla-Bal, and One Big Rush (Well, I Believe and Always made me actually pick up the guitar in the first place) are your top songs out of all of them. Take care, Joe. And hey, did your management ever pass on a G3 request from me? If not, they should have!! Hopefully I'll hear from you soon, Joe.
