I mostly agree with you there, Michelle. Mostly... But 80's music kicked a$$!!!!!!! Well, the rock scene did anyway. Iron Maiden, Europe, Whitesnake, Dream Theater in their prime, Judas Priest, Metallica, blah blah blah. 80's music was cool. Of course, the music of then cannot be compared to todays talent, with the likes of Sum 41 and Blink 182... lol :)

Crazytre, The clear guitar is a JS2k and Joe has a couple of custom 7 strings from Ibanez with the same js body style. The JS2k's are particularly sweet, heavier than hell, and sustain for days. At least that's how mine is. If you really want to see some cool Ibanez guitars go to www.ibanezrules.com. That is where I purchased mine. Rich has all kinds of sweet JEMS, Petrucci's, Universes', and others for sale. Plus he's a really nice guy!

Hey, Joe, since you haven't put "Slick" anywhere yet, why don't you just make it an on-line download only? I know I would download it. JAY- I know you like shredding and hard 80's-mid-90's rock, and we all do (I think), but could you stand writing and playing that stuff for 20 freakin' years (if not more)? Joe's started to cool his jets a little, and what comes out isn't bad. I've already got parts of "Chords of Life" stuck in my head. Can't wait 'till the 25th!

JAY, everyone is entitled to their opinions, and if you don't like what you've heard so far from SBM, that's fine & dandy, but dude, to say Joe is "burying the passions that made him famous" is just laughable. How the hell do you know what Joe Satriani's passions are. The year is 2002, not 1992! This music is JOE'S choice! It comes from his mind, his soul. What he wrote in '92 isn't what he's writing now. Evolution brother! If any of us are doing the same thing we did 10 yrs. ago, we need to wake up! The music of the 80's is done and over with (thank ya Jesus!) and the music world has been through many twists and turns. Joe has always stood out as an ORIGINAL and IMO, he always will. What we got from Joe in the 80's and 90's was good, damn good, but it ain't over till the fat lady sings ~ and right now, I think Yayo has her tied up in a garage somewhere in sunny California, so she won't be singing for a long time!! STRANGE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC is what it's all about!!

Dear Joe, I am a 12 year old student at Palos South Middle School and a HUGE fan of yours. I play in my school's jazz band as a guitarist and I am constantly trying to master your mindblowing licks to impress my friends. (I can play the beginning of Summer Song!) I first picked up the guitar at age 10 and thanks to many inspirations I'm still playing. After my dad introduced me to Hendrix and Jimmy Page it seemed like I was discovering new guitar heroes every week! Finally my interests led me to purchase a magazine with the 100 greatest guitarists in it. You were (of course) in it and the way they described you led me to promptly buy "Surfing with the Alien". It makes me shiver when I think of how catchy your songs are, not to mention mindblowingly fast! It was a couple days ago when my dad came home with the pleasant news that you were playing in Rosemont! We will be the first to buy tickets! I've heard many bands give away backstage passes and was wondering if you do anything like that. If so please send me one or tell me how to get one because you re truly a hero of mine and I know your concert will stick with me the rest of my life. Sincerely, Alex

Well, I got to hear most of Rockline in mono over the phone - I called about 20 or so times, and finally got through - they asked me what my question and name was, and told me to hold on a second. Then it sounded like they put me through, but I was really just in the que. Unfortunately, I was in the que the whole show! Anyway, Joe, you came across very well answering the questions, and the fans that were lucky enough to get through asked some really good questions. And I got to hear Mindstorm in full, so it's all good. Dave Gruska

Heard samples and i hate to say it...I really do... I have followed Satch back in the mid to late 80s when Not of This Earth came out and no one knew about it at the time. Seems Satch has gone down hill since THE EXTREMIST. These new tracks sound like Joe is trying SO HARD to be different, and in the process he is burying the passions that made him famous. Hey Slipmaster... "RASPBERRY JAM DELTA-V" refers to the condition a body would be in after the sudden acceleration needed to propel a spaceship into a multi-lightspeed velocity. Delta = change, & V = velocity, therefore the body would look like raspberry jam due to the sudden & extreme change in velocity. This comes from a Dan Simmons story (4 books total) referred to as the "Hyperion Cantos". Probably the BEST story I've ever read (in the top 2 anyways). The reference to "Raspberry Jam Delta-V" is made in the 4th book. L8r... John aka =o|-[

Man O Man what can I say about your new songs played on the radio........They Rock....Starry Night was beautiful, I can't wait to get this one and pop it into my CD player, and lay back and go into another world.....Ok Now with my Mindstorm review......I kept hearing Mindstorm this, and Midstorm that for the last two months, and it was actually getting on my nerves after a while..I was sick about hearing about mindstorm, It had so much hype before it was even released, that I didn't even care if I heard it.....well man was I wrong, that song is one of the heaviest, best rip it up songs I have ever heard satch play.....I am so psyched about this song now.....This is a masterpiece....It would be a shame if this doesn't get played on radio stations, this could bring oodles of guitar players and newbies to the Joe forefront. Joe I tried to get through last night but it busy......It rang through twice but only during commercials and it rand so many times that the operator would come on and say _______ is not available please call again, and you would have to go through the system all over again.........dantheman, I'm a JDubU, and no it's not a cult, you have to look into things more before you start saying stuff about something and not knowing details, alot of people say we don't believe in Jesus and we don't watch TV and crap like that but it's like the school phone thing in Kindergarden your teachers show you....rumors get started and you don't have any idea how...once it's going it's gone...Oh well, back to the Joe Subject....JOE RULES!

Joe, Hi. I think you've been listening to Jeff Beck (and why not ?)- have you listened to Nadia ? - Beautiful. Please do something about the Eight Steps and Slick - we all want ALL of your music. Don't let the MIB at Sony have it all their own way - how do they justify their prices in Japan ? I second the idea about an instructional video if you could fit it in somewhere. Someone on T2J mentioned the restrictions on Cameras at shows. Who is responsible for this ? Is it the venues or is it the Sony darkside ? Do they think that Sony is going to lose money over a few pictures ? Or.. are they ultra-paranoid about that new technology that is able to photograph music and then put it on the web for free. EOR (End of rant). Can't wait to see you in Manchester. All the very best. Luv, Ged (I can hear the MIB comming for me .....arghhhh)

sounds great joe- listened to all the samples and they sound cool. From what I hear it seems to have little shades of lots of your previous cds. the mix and tones used sounds most like crystal planet in my opinion, but we've got some self-titled bluesy licks, some Phone-Call-stylee slide guitar, some organic laid back EOC style licks, it's kinda like a best of album with all new material... can't wait for the real thing.

Hi everyone. Rockline was pretty cool. If I counted correctly, 3 T2Jers made it on the air, right? We had MegaBoyd, Cyber Alien, and Ice9Mike? The interview was great...I wish Joe would've had a little more time but it's still cool. If anyone's still listening to 107.7 The Bone, they're playing the Not Of This Earth album... They're on Memories right now... I imagine they'll stop after playing Side 1, but who knows. ===== mystical ice monkey - Where's the latest episode of the Joe Satriani comic? ;-) ===== vtpeters - We have to sneak in cameras in the US as well. It's kinda tricky. ===== njbeast - Fill out your set list on the site...Joe's probably working on doing all of that stuff now. ===== Slipmaster - Joe got the title Raspberry Jam Delta-V from a science fiction book. I forget all the details, but it was mentioned on here earlier this year. I forget the name of the book, but it was part of a trilogy...so if you search the archives for the word "tri1ogy" you should find more information. ...Austin...

JONK36 - thats whats good about file sharing services...you can download those rare or bonus tracks only released in another country....i don't think joe would really mind that, i mean we can't get those tunes here unless we buy the imported cd...which would suck since we bought the us version, im sure joe would understand something like that... i'm sure joe would be more than happy to put the full version of such a song online here but then the sony thugs may give him a talking to...those sony thugs still have never gotten back to me about the 92'-ish walkman commercial featuring summer song...i wanted to get it from them somehow, but i guess they think my request is unimportant...QUANTUM - if you ever get the remote chance to see joe live, do it...it is quite the experience...yes we are lucky...we may whine about joe not playing here or there but hey joe plays tens of dates in our country, something many many other people wish they could have!

Joe, the samples sound great! Thanks for putting them up. I really like "Oriental Melody" and "New Last Jam" - they've got a cool Zeppelin-esque feel to them. Also, I keep listening to "Mountain Song" - it kind of reminds me of Al Pitrelli's playing on Randy Coven's albums. I think "Mind Storm" will live up to all the T2J hype, judging from the few seconds I heard of it. I didn't like "Starry Night" much at first, but it's already growing on me, after I had it on loop about 20 times! I like the banjo in the background, and it's got a solid melody. The only sample I'm not crazy about is "Hill Groove". It doesn't sound enough like a Satch song to me. Anyway, I have a quick question for you - the first four notes on the sample of "You Saved My Life" sound like the guitar is almost humming/playing the words "you saved my life" - was that intentional? If so, does the rest of the melody match to certain words you had in your head? Dave Gruska

Hi everyone... If you're wondering about the Japanese bonus track, read some of the posts at the bottom of this page. Several people explained the reasoning behind it all. xrob - I'd just fill out the whole set list...32 songs or whatever it is. If Joe plays a 10 song set, he'll look for the 10 most popular songs overall (in the set lists)... If he's playing a 20 song set, he'll look for the 20 most popular songs... And so on... ===== Lowenslash - Welcome to the site. ===== Michalow - Joe used the 7-string on Mind Storm and Seven String. That guitar was custom-made by Ibanez and is not a production model. ===== Invigor - I think Robert Fripp played on Sleep Walk. ===== Meredith from Mty - Email your photo to webmaster@satriani.com and he'll put it up on the site for you. ===== german - Go to www.rocklineradio.com and you should be able to find a broadcast schedule. ===== kiero - Yeah, Joe will be there. If the info isn't on Ticketmaster yet it's because the tickets won't be on sale for a while. Keep watching the page. ...Austin...

Judging from the photo's that are posted/mailed to this website, concert attendants are encouraged to take pictures during concerts. This is NOT permitted in The Netherlands. If the security people see a camera, you'll have to leave it at the door and pick it up afterwards on your way out. Not my idea, to leave my Canon reflex camera with telephoto lens behind like that. I sold my (very) old reflex camera years back, a camera with which I managed to smuggle in and take pictures during the early eighties. Can I get a special permit for this or do I have to take a chance (for the first time in years)? Joe, can you tell those people at the door to let me pass through WITH the camera. I'll make some pictures for all to see here and I'll even let you use them free of charge for future artwork... ;-) Mail me at victor@telebyte.nl

I have been a long time fan and well since I just became a member of this website ( I am not big on "fan" sites ) I basically want to tell you about losing my mom in '93 and finding comfort in your most beautiful songs. They are works of art that should be experienced by anyone with a big heart and an open mind. They have helped me at certain times to remember the unspoken love and comradery that me and my mom felt about each other. The song "love thing" has helped me take away the words that get in the way of expressing my feelings about a long time friend of mine who I've known since the 4th grade! I am 36 yrs old having just celebrated my birthday on 5/26 ........ So in closing thanks Joe! Anthony Lowenberg

Austin, glad you find it funny, Surfing must be our good luck charm. When we arrived at the show yesterday we hadn't quite got to the track, so we had to sit in the car and wait for it to come on and finish before we could get out. I wasn't taking any chances. It's all very weird. Surfing is the first track we heard from Joe, it is the track that caused us to search and buy more Joe stuff and our dog's kennel name even starts with Joe. Perhaps there is a bit of magic about this track, I don't know, just hope it keeps working for us. By the way 6'4" aye, I bet when you say it's Wednesday, it's Wednesday. LOL Sharon.

Okay, I take it back. 1 - 0 to England is a great result to an excellent match. The thing is that now the England squad have beaten the side that is effectively their arch-rivals, they'll sit back and lose to Nigeria, just like what happened in France '98, when they beat Germany then lost to Romania. Great game though. This World Cup seems to be evolving into a competition of the underdogs, what with Croatia beating Italy 2 - 1, Senegal beating world champions France 2 - 0, and the USA beating Portugal 3 - 2. The makings of a very exciting tournament, me thinks...

Hi everyone. I just got done watching the US / Korea World Cup match. Did anyone else see it? It was CRAZY...65,000 Korean fans. Friedel is a wonderful goalie for the US...he had some great saves. Too bad they only got the tie. ===== I updated my setlist to include some new songs, if anyone wants to take a look. Let me know when anyone else makes changes and I'll take a look. ===== chron - Where are your 8/11 seats? I'll be in the pit up front. ===== Kda - The webmaster said he's still working on the new site. It's taking longer than expected, so it'll probably be really cool. ===== Al Surfer - I'd like a Satch only gig as well...hopefully he'll do an LA date later on this year, once I'm back down there. I wanted to see Deep Purple this summer, but I'll be on vacation for all of their northern CA dates. However, my dad is a HUGE Deep Purple fan, so once we get back from our vacation we're driving down to LA to see them at The Greek Theatre...LOL. It should be great. My new Urge II bass is awesome...thanks for asking. It is SO easy to play...it sounds and feels great. I love it...now I just need to get a summer job so I can pay for it. ;-) ===== sharon - That's so funny about your dog and Surfing...LOL. ...Austin...

Austin - Unfortunately I will be on vacation in Cayucas when Satch plays Concord. Bummer Joe-wise huh? We both know Joe will be back at the end of the tour to play some northern CA places before shutting down the SBM tour so I'm not worried. I want a Satch-only gig anyway. By that time of the year you will probably be back down in southern CA so we'll have to meet up again some other time. I don't think you are going to the Deep Purple (Steve is the man!) gig at Konocti on 7/31 are you? I'm not the drunken knucklehead you and your Dad met at G3 last year, lol! When your idiot friends keeps sending free drinks to your table you can't let them go to waste, haha. Regarding the shared-billing gigs; I like Dream Theater, but they have such a negative feel to them. I call them the progressive rock version of The Cure. I'll stick with Rush and Yes for my prog. rock. Although I definitely can't wait for John's solo album to be released. Megaboyd & I talked to Dave LaRue at a Dixie Dregg's gig 4 months ago and he said we will be blown away with his & John's work on the album. BTW, how is the new bass and being home for the summer?

Hi everyone. webmaster - THANK YOU for the SBM samples. They all sound great. Some of those new photos sound great...it'd be cool if you can get them up soon. ===== Al Surfer - Will you be seeing Joe this summer? Concord, maybe? ===== As others have said...there is a bonus track on foreign versions of US albums because the way the world economy works, it's cheaper for someone in Japan or Europe to buy the US import instead of the Japanese or European version. Not only does this hurt foreign economies, but it also messes with the charting systems (like Billboard in the US) that keep track of album sales overseas. So bonus tracks are on those CDs to encourage people in other countries to purchase their versions instead of the US import. ...Austin...

HEY JOE, here's my review from the excerpts I just listened too: Belly Dancer: Great low tone with the Wah. Chords of Life: Excellent acoustic tone, How did you EQ it? Sleep Walk: I've alwayz wanted to remake this song too, IT'S GREAT JOE! Mountain Song: I love the way the 2nd guitar keeps moving around. Seven String: Bangs with low tones that really stand out, also has lovely harmony parts inside. The Journey: This is my favorite things to do on ballads is to use open chords together and create a solid foundation to feed from. You Saved My Life: JOE, did this song originally have lyrics? Love it....more great harmony. Slick: Slick, nuff said! 'til I can get the CD and listen to it without WMA clutter, these are my thoughts for now. Thanks for another great experience Joe. Later OME.

Traveler : No, Japanese market is not "privileged". The true story behind is that the Japan made cds are often 40% more expensive than the imported ones. So, in order to keep the sales of the japan made cds at a normal level, labels/music companies often -not always- put a "bonus track" so people buy the Japanese cd instead of the imported one. So, before saying that Joe let you down, learn about the facts. I think Joe once said that he was against this "bonus track" thing, but he couldn't do anything about it. Hope this piece of info enlightened your views. And, before you ask, YES I'm living in Tokyo, and YES I always buy the 3 versions of Joe's cds : european, american and japanese. later ...

mak2 (Mak Hofmann) <MTH619@msn.com>:
The Japanese get an extra track because of finances. Japanese-made CDs cost significantly more than US CDs. Ultimately, it's cheaper for the Japanese to import US CDs. Therefore, to create interest in buying the more expensive CD, they add tracks.
Date: Sun Jun 9 19:27
ice9mike (Miguel Vasquez) <ice9mike@yahoo.com>:
The Japanese fans always need more on the CD's to entice them to buy American artists. They're spoiled. Personally I would love to see "Strange Beautiful Leftovers" that would have "Eight Steps" and "Slick". As it stands now the US CD is only 60+ minutes. We could use the extra couple of songs. At any rate I'm sure you will be able to find the other tracks somewhere on the net.
