aug '06 newsletter (msg from joe, podcast #3 & more!)
satriani.com online fan newsletter vol 4, issue 8 2006 aug 01
Hello and welcome to the Aug 1st 2006 SATRIANI.COM newsletter!
Here's what you can see in this issue:
* MESSAGE FROM JOE
* 2006 ROAD PODCAST
* JEFF CAMPITELLI'S ROAD PHOTOS
* UPCOMING GIGS (SPECIAL LA GIG, G3, CLINIC)
MESSAGE FROM JOE
Having just returned from a great European tour, and a crazy Guitar
Town Festival at Copper Mountain in Colorado, I thought I'd say Hi
and fill you in on what's coming up next.
More whacky Podcasts for one thing, they just get funnier and
funnier, you'll see.
The mixing of our live DVD shot in HD is just being finished, and the
2 disc set will eventually contain:
the whole show from The Grove, a few movies featuring Super Colossal
rehearsals, backstage and more, at the last US show at The Warfield
in SF, the making of "Crowd Chant" in Vancouver, the first four
podcasts, a beautiful slide show from our European tour, and an
amazing documentary filmed in India last year called "Flying in a
Blue Dream". This double DVD set is packed with great stuff!
Later this month, on the 12th, I will be giving a clinic at the
National Guitar Workshop in New Milford, CT , and playing at the Rock
'n' Roll Fantasy Camp in NYC on the 14th.
A benefit show for our dear friend Cliff Cultreri will be held on
September 30th at the House of Blues in L.A.,CA. I will be joined by
Steve Vai and many others on stage to help raise funds for Cliff's
mounting medical bills. Please read our press release for more details.
http://www.satriani.com/2004/road/2006-09-30-pr.shtml
G3 shows for South America and Australia are set: John Petrucci, Eric
Johnson and I will play S.A and Mexico in mid October. Australia will
see Steve Vai, John Petrucci and me in early December. Check
satriani.com for exact dates.
That's all for now!
Joe
2006 ROAD PODCAST
It all started in San Francisco the last night of the U.S. Super Colossal
tour... webmaster Jon commented to Joe's son ZZ "hey, since you're going
to be around during the European tour, why not take your skateboard
video skills and do some video podcasts for the site?" Seemed like a
long shot, but ZZ stepped up to the challenge and he and Joe and the
band have been working hard to make some good use of the downtime
between shows to slap these classic podcasts together for you. Check
out the crazy antics of life on the road in this limited edition 6-part
podcast series!
Episodes 1-3 have already launched, so if you haven't seen 'em yet,
come on over to SATRIANI.COM and click on the big button on the home
page to check 'em out. Subscribe using iTunes (or your other favorite
podcast tool) and get them downloaded as they appear. The remaining
3 will continue to show up every other week. If you like 'em, post a
message on Talk To Joe and let us know-- maybe we'll try to continue them
throughout the rest of the year!
Also look for the podcast featured in iTunes' podcast "New & Notable"
section and take a moment to add your comments on it.

note from joe + win super colossal guitar!
Joe Satriani here, checking in with some last minute pre-tour notes...
Big thanks to all the fans who made last week's in-store run so much
fun and successful. My hands are finally recovering from extreme
handshake time! But, it was worth it. Special thanks to Rockline and
all the retailers that allowed us to take over their shops for a few
hours, especially West LA Music, who hosted our CD release performance
right across the street from their store.
We are all looking forward to getting out on tour and making some
history with a new set of music... which reminds me, I haven't written
the set list yet!!! Your ideas are always welcome... Thanks for making
satriani.com so much fun... See you soon.
Joe

JOE SATRIANI TO AUCTION RARE GUITAR FOR
MUSIC IN THE SCHOOLS PROGRAMS
RAFFLE TICKETS AVAILABLE AT UPCOMING CONCERT STOPS
(Los Angeles, CA) - JOE SATRIANI fans will have a chance to win a
rare customized and autographed Ibanez guitar, designed to commemorate
the release of SATRIANI's 12th solo album, Super Colossal, while
also supporting music education. Beginning with the first tour
stop in Denver, CO and running throughout the last show in San
Francisco (April 1 - May 13), where the drawing will take place,
fans will be able to purchase raffle tickets for $10, giving them
a once in a lifetime chance to win. The prized guitar is one of
only 10 Super Colossal guitars made featuring the album's cover
artwork. Proceeds from the auction will benefit two school music
programs - Little Kids Rock and Music In Schools Today.
SATRIANI was recently announced as an Honorary Board Member for the
Little Kids Rock organization. Little Kids Rock restores music to
its rightful place in the academic lives of kids in our public
schools by providing a rich music education program including
instrument instruction, free instruments and trained mentors. Founded
by an elementary school teacher in 1996, Little Kids Rock has served
more than 7,000 students in CA, NY, NJ and TN. Bonnie Raitt, Paul
Simon, B.B. King and Les Paul sit on our Honorary Board of Directors
and we are supported by friends Tom Waits, Liberty DeVitto, Bob
Weir and others.
Music in Schools Today (MuST) supports, develops and promotes music
education for youth in schools and in the community. Since 1983,
MuST has served public school grades K-12 in the San Francisco Bay
Area. The program is the Bay Area's answer to the crisis in music
education. Despite extensive research indicating that music instruction
supplies intellectual, emotional and physical components critical
to children's development, music and arts programs are often the
first victims of budget cuts. MuST combats this trend with a
comprehensive set of programs that are resistant to budget slashing.
MuST serves over 20,000 children and youth annually in schools and
community centers, conducts research and development and advocates
to restore music as an essential principle of pre-K through 12
education.
This year marks SATRIANI's 20-year anniversary as a solo artist,
his first album, Not Of This Earth, was released in 1986. Over the
course of his illustrious career, SATRIANI has achieved huge success,
selling more than 10 million albums & DVDs worldwide with 12 solo
albums (2 platinum, 4 gold) and 3 platinum DVD's, as well as garnering
13 Grammy nominations.

Winner to be selected May 13th.

Here it is! One Robot's Dream liner notes
“One Robot’s Dream”: What if a robot had a dream about becoming human? What would that flood of emotion feel like to an artificial intelligence? That was how I started writing this song. Using a different kind of arrangement to echo the robot’s path to consciousness, I put the solo at the end to represent the opening up of the robot’s mind and what a strange and cathartic experience it would be.
